Anxiety

Fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives. Whether you are a child or adult, through counseling and treatment, I am able to help you recover motivation, perspective, and joy that you once had in your life.

Trauma & PTSD

Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger post traumatic events. I can help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of grief and healing.

Obsessions and Compulsions (OCD)

Obsessions are repetitive thoughts, pictures or impulses which are usually unpleasant and come into mind when we don't want them. Many things can trigger these obsessions, and they may leave you feeling very anxious, uncomfortable or frightened. The compulsion is the behaviour performed in order to 'put right' the obsession. Experiencing obsessions and compulsions can be very debilitating, but through therapy I can help to reduce the occurrence whilst enabling you to live the life you value.

Phobias

Although we all have fears surrounding certain items, people with phobias are more significantly affected. For instance, you may often change your ifestyle to ensure you can avoid your phobic items. You may also experience a variety of anxiety-based body sensations when faced with your phobias which can be frightening in themselves. We can work together to help you to reduce your fear in a safe way and get you back on track.

Panic Attacks

Anxiety is something we all experience at times. Panic is basically the word used to describe high levels of anxiety. When people experience panic, many uncomfortable physical symptoms occur in their body. As these physical feelings of panic are so intense, they can be very frightening. At Iris Therapies I offer a safe space to reduce these frightening symptoms and help you to move forward in valued direction.

What to expect from your therapy sessions

First we’ll have a free phone consultation (10 mins). Then, if you’re happy to, we can go ahead and book you in for your first appointment at a date and time that suits you. I try to keep therapy flexible, so sessions can be done in my clinic or online from home.

The first session is the assessment (60 minutes) and I will explore what you have come to therapy for, what you have tried in the past, what helped and what didn't help, and your gals for therapy. At the end of this session, I will try and make some recommendations around what may be most helpful for you.

After the assessment session, the sessions will be 50 minutes. Each person I work with is very different so it is difficult to predict how many sessions will be needed. From a personal therapeutic perspective, my aim is only to work with a person for as long as it is helpful and to empower the person to leave therapy with the skills they need.

The idea of talking to a stranger about things that you are struggling with, and you may have never spoken about before, probably seems quite seem daunting. However, I think it's really important that you a have a good experience of therapy so with that in mind, my first aim is to cultivate a trusting, confidential, and non-judgmental relationship that makes you feel comfortable and safe enough to share your experiences and difficulties with me.

Please feel free to arrange a free phone consultation by contacting me on 07471 865 929 or email michaela.dunbar@iristherapies.com
